McKinney-Vento Support for Students & Families
If your family is experiencing temporary or unstable housing, your child may qualify for additional educational rights and support through the McKinney-Vento program.
Our goal is to help students stay enrolled, connected to school, and supported during housing transitions.
The Hacienda La Puente Unified School District Homeless Education Program was established to support homeless students and their families under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, a key component of the No Child Left Behind Act.
Could My Family Qualify?
You may qualify for McKinney-Vento support if your family is:
Staying temporarily with another family or friends due to economic hardship
Living in a motel or hotel
Living in a shelter or transitional housing
Living in a car, park, campground, or other place not designed for housing
Youth living without a parent or guardian
Your Child Has Educational Rights
Through the McKinney-Vento program, your child has the right to:
Immediate Enrollment
Your child can enroll in school right away, even if you don’t have all required documents.
School Stability
Your child can stay in their school of origin or attend the school best for them.
Transportation
Support
Transportation can be provided to help your child stay in their school of origin when eligible.
Access to Education
Your child has the right to the same educational programs and services as other students.
Support for Success
We are here to support your child’s success in school.

Backpacks & Supplies
Free backpacks, school supplies, and classroom materials.
Uniforms
Uniform vouchers and clothing support.
Tutoring
Free academic tutoring after school or online.
Counseling
Mental health, social-emotional, and crisis support.
Low Cost Medical/Dental
Referrals to low cost medical and dental providers.
Immediate Enrollment
Immediate school enrollment with waived documents.
Food Pantries
Local, weekly, drive-up food distributions.
School Supplies
Free school supplies and classroom materials.
Early Childhood
Preschool access and after school program enrollment.
