GLEN A. WILSON HIGH SCHOOL SELECTED AS FINALIST IN THE SIEMENS “WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD CHALLENGE”
The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge for high school encourages student teams to identify an environmental issue that has global impact and to provide a viable, replicable solution. Teams select an environmental topic relating to energy, biodiversity, land management, water conservation & clean-up and/or air & climate.
As citizens and stewards of our planet, high school students are in a unique position to become active agents of environmental change. Fortunately many are interested in learning about and taking responsibility for your environment. In addition, they are familiar with today's tools and technologies that can help influence others to create an impact beyond their local community.
The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge gives teens the opportunity, tools and inspiration to become agents of change. High school student teams from across the country are challenged to create sustainable environmental improvements that can be replicated around the globe.
Siemens "We Can Change The World" 2013 High School Finalists
Team Name: Wildcats
Location: Hacienda Heights
School: Glen A. Wilson High School
Teacher/Mentor: Jinasha Udeshi
Description: The project is an endeavor to reduce the carbon footprint in an eco-friendly and cost-effective manner through the concept of a grass roof, or green roof. Because it can decrease energy usage via insulation and better the air quality through photosynthesis, a green roof provides a win-win situation for the environment and the user, possibly making it one of the best ways to have everyone help contribute to the fight against global warming.
