A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING UPDATES ON THE SCHOOL RECONFIGURATION PLAN

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING UPDATES ON THE SCHOOL RECONFIGURATION PLAN
Andrea Torres

Dear Hacienda La Puente Unified Families,

At Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, we are dedicated to providing equity across all schools and ensuring our students have the essential tools they need to achieve their academic and personal aspirations. To uphold this commitment, HLPUSD is optimizing enrollment across sites and grades to provide equitable instructional and enrichment programs Districtwide.

I want to begin by thanking our staff, families, stakeholders, and community for their continued support and collaboration as we move toward the next steps in the District’s Reconfiguration Plan.

Over the next few months, our District community can expect periodic messaging from the District regarding planning updates. Please visit HLPUSD’s Reconfiguration Information webpage for more details, including community input meeting results, presentations, and a full reconfiguration report available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

In January, we began holding Community Connection meetings at impacted school sites for parents and families to learn more about the reconfiguration plans and support resources. These information meetings will continue throughout March to ensure all families have an opportunity to learn more and ask questions. Additionally, our Human Resources team met with the reconfiguring school staff to discuss the timeline. Our team will notify staff on their potential site placements this month.

The District is also focusing on providing support for students, families, and staff who will be transitioning schools.

Open Enrollment for 2024-25 closed on February 1. Thank you to the impacted families who completed the priority enrollment registration survey, as we received a 70% response rate. We are also pleased to announce that we were able to honor the first school choice for the majority of our respondents.

School sites will continue to contact families with pertinent information, including details on the next principal sessions, designed to familiarize parents and students with their new campus. Sites that will receive new students are being reviewed and will be modernized as needed to ensure classrooms are ready for learning.

Many sites have also started welcoming incoming students with field trips to their new campus, where students can connect with their new classmates and teachers and learn about the programs and extracurricular activities available to them in the summer months and the 2024-25 school year. Orientation Days and meet-and-greets are being held for all students transitioning to new schools.

Our Special Education Department also determined Special Day Class (SDC) programs and sent notifications to families regarding locations for students with Individualized Education Programs based on the best interests of students and to provide a wide variety of services at sites. Orientation days and meet-and-greets for students with IEPs will also be held through April.

We are also launching our Transition Leadership Collaborative (TLC) which will work to provide a warm handoff and strengthen the connections between incoming and receiving schools. Parents, employees, students, and our administrators will work together in the collaborative to focus on culture and climate to provide the best experience for our students and families.

Hacienda La Puente Unified is committed to providing equitable academic programs and enrichment opportunities that prepare our students for excellence and enable them to achieve their goals. I look forward to continuing this mission as a united community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alfonso Jiménez

Superintendent of Schools
