From High School to Kindergarten: Hacienda La Puente Unified Community Unites to Foster Love of Reading
Hacienda La Puente Unified School District celebrated March as National Reading Month with key engaging activities and spirited theme days that brought together students, teachers, parents, and staff during Read Across America Week from March 3 to 7. This Districtwide collaboration sparked a love for reading, encouraged academic success, and strengthened a sense of community.
Throughout the month, educators swapped classrooms to read to new students, while middle and high school students and teachers visited elementary schools to share the joy of reading. Local first responders also donated their time to read to students, and families participated by reading their favorite books with their children.
The exchange of stories and ideas aimed to foster connections between the community and classrooms, creating a shared experience that spanned all grade and age levels.
"Fostering a love for reading from an early age creates a strong foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth,” HLPUSD Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Jiménez said. "When students develop a passion for reading, they expand their knowledge, build critical thinking skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. We are proud to see our students and staff to make reading and literacy a priority across all our schools.”
