Hacienda La Puente Unified has received a $5,000 donation from Burlington, made possible through a partnership with the non-profit organization AdoptAClassroom.org, in celebration of the grand opening of the department store retailer’s new location in La Puente.

Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Jiménez collaborated with AdoptAClassroom.org to secure the funds for Workman Elementary School, coordinating with principal Erika Valenzuela to ensure the Workman community and students were present at the store's ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 1 to receive the surprise donation.

“This donation gives us more than school supplies,” Valenzuela said. “It empowers and supports our teachers in their mission to educate and inspire our youth and provides our students with the tools and resources they need to succeed.”

During the event, educators from Workman Elementary were honored for their commitment to education and the positive impact they have on their students. They were invited to the front, where a giant check was presented alongside representatives from Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org, District leaders, La Puente Mayor Gabriel Quiñones and Mayor Pro Tem Charlie Klinakis emphasizing the importance of community support and partnership.

AdoptAClassroom.org has been helping teachers and schools raise funds for classroom materials since 1988. Each teacher at Workman Elementary will utilize the funds to purchase customized materials through AdoptAClassroom.org’s online marketplace, ensuring that the resources acquired are of high quality and tailored to their students' needs.

“Thank you to Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org for the generous donation to our Wolverine family,” Jiménez said. “This support allows us to further our commitment to creating an equitable environment for our students to flourish.”
