Hacienda La Puente Unified Elementary Schools Advanced to Conga Kids Finals, California Elementary Wins Second Place
California and Los Altos elementary school students danced their way through the Conga Kids Finals, competing against top teams in the region on May 14, with California Elementary School claiming second place.
This achievement reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to arts education, cultural awareness, and personal development. Through the Conga Kids program, students not only learned cultural performances but also explored the historical roots of African diaspora dances.
Additionally, students developed essential life skills including teamwork, leadership, social-emotional learning, and cultural inclusivity. As part of the program, students learned and performed a variety of social dances, including:
- Lamban (West Africa)
- Merengue (Dominican Republic)
- Salsa and Son Cubano (Cuba)
- Cumbia (Colombia/Mexico)
- Authentic Jazz/Charleston and Hip-Hop (United States)
Congratulations to all our students for showcasing their talents and skills in front of the community!
